Dear GCA Members,
Verizon is making an application for a telecommunications tower to be erected at 1538 Crenshaw Road, near John Mosby Highway (Rt. 50) and Crenshaw Road in Fauquier County. This tower is proposed to be 80 feet tall and disguised as “any type of silo.”
The Goose Creek Association is listed as a “consulting party, “ so that we may comment to the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR) who will be conducting a Section 106 Review to determine effects of the proposed structure on nearby historic resources. The proposed site is adjacent or near to the Upperville Historic Battlefield District, the Goose Creek Cromwell’s Run Historic District, Rose Hill Farm, and other contributing structures within the Goose Creek Historic District.
Fauquier County has request that Verizon conduct a “Balloon Fly” test to help determine the visual effects on historic properties and the rural area. Notice of that test is below. Please refer to it for specifics on the date and times. We send this to you so that you may observe the area at the time of the test if you have an interest in this project. Public observations must be from public property or highways/roads. Please do not attempt to enter onto private property without specific invitation.
If you have specific comments regarding the test or the proposal, please feel free to send them in writing (a brief statement) to GCA and we will incorporate them into our comments to the VDHR. Thank you.

Subject: Atoka Balloon Fly
Good Morning:
At the request of Fauquier County, VZW will be conducting a balloon fly on Friday April 19, 2013 from 8am until 12pm at the proposed Atoka cell site to assist in evaluating effects on historic properties in the area. If there is inclement weather, the balloon fly will be performed on April 26 from 8am until 12pm.
You are receiving this email because you have requested to be identified as “consulting parties” in the Section 106 process. Please distribute this notice to those within your organizations or the community that may have interest. In addition, VZW will be running a notice in the Fauquier Times in the near future which will also present the date and time of the balloon fly.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
