Advocacy

Home Advocacy

Protecting Goose Creek means standing up for its exceptional scenic, recreational, and natural qualities. Considering the enormous population growth the watershed has seen, it has become critical to ensure that the Goose has a voice in every deliberation about the future within its basin.

Land use can impact housing density and transportation decisions along the creek. Every road and stream crossing has the potential to cause considerable harm to Goose Creek’s ecology and the experience of paddling.

The landscape through which the Goose wends its way toward the Potomac River is a regional and national treasure. It contains historic sites and small villages and town that mark the earliest days of the nation.

As a state scenic river, Goose Creek should be fishable and swimable every day. As a tributary of the Potomac River, it is part of the drinking water supply for over five million people. It’s up to all of us to protect the Goose from pollution caused by runoff from the land, stormwater, and outdated farming practices upstream. That’s why Goose Creek Association has been monitoring the health of the stream since 2013.

Help us make a difference! We invite you to support the preservation and heritage of this unique natural resource by becoming a member of the Goose Creek Association.
