Amended Comments Before the Board of Supervisors
Regarding Proposed Verizon Cell Tower on Crenshaw Road
Fauquier County
October 10, 2013
- Goose Creek Association is a nonprofit representing @600 members in Fauquier and Loudoun Counties to preserve and protect the natural resources, historic heritage and rural quality of life in the Goose Creek watershed, part of the Potomac and Chesapeake watersheds. GCA is a consulting party in this review process under the National Historic Preservation Act.
- We support technology that enhances our quality of life, including our work.
- The proposed cell tower would be visibly located in an especially sensitive, historic view shed. GCA endorses the comments of the Mosby Heritage Area Association, the Piedmont Environmental Counsel, and others with similar concerns.
- The proposed cell tower is not far from the Upperville fire department that has a location more suitable for a cell tower—why can’t that location be used?
- If a new cell tower silo is justified, then the old cell tower should be eliminated and all should colocate on the new tower.
- Verizon has not provided rural residential high-speed internet service that can be bundled with cell phone and/or land line service, in all areas where it has provided commercial DSL or FIOS service. All telecom services should be provided in a comprehensive manner without favoring commercial over residential service.
- Granting Verizon’s request will set a precedent for multiple cell towers in the same location, creating redundant and unnecessary visual blights on this beautiful, historic landscape without demonstrating necessity or comprehensive service benefits to Fauquier residents.
