Goose Creek Association Hosts “Experience Goose Creek: A Day on the Water” on June 8
Middleburg, VA – Goose Creek Association invites community members to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Goose Creek Watershed at Experience Goose Creek: A Day on the Water, taking place on Sunday, June 8, 2025. This free event, co-sponsored by Mark Betts, Shelley Slade, and The Goodstone, offers hands-on environmental education, outdoor adventure, and an opportunity to learn more about local conservation efforts—all while enjoying one of Northern Virginia’s most treasured scenic waterways.
Participants may choose from two unique tracks:
- Track 1: Guided Kayak Paddle – Attendees will paddle along scenic stretches of Goose Creek with experienced guides, learning about the watershed’s ecology and the conservation efforts in place to protect this important tributary of the Potomac River.
- Track 2: Exploration on Foot – Participants may choose to attend one or both of the following experiences:
- A Bird Walk led by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, offering a closer look at the bird species that call the Goose Creek area home.
- A hands-on Aquatic Life Demonstration, where trained GCA stream monitors will introduce attendees to the macroinvertebrates and aquatic organisms that help scientists evaluate water quality and stream health.
A complimentary boxed lunch, generously provided by The Goodstone, will follow the morning’s activities.
“This event offers a powerful way for people to connect with the land and water that sustain our communities,” said Ted Lewis, Goose Creek Association Board Chair. “Whether paddling the creek or discovering its wildlife on foot, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for why Goose Creek is worth protecting.”
The event is free for current Goose Creek Association members. Non-members are welcome to attend by making a minimum donation of $35, which includes a one-year membership.
